Description

A technique to hold down the opponent’s upper body under the right side of the chest region by holding his right arm in the left arm from the right side of the opponent lying on his back and gripping the back of his collar with the right hand. (Kodokan definition)

Key points

  1. Secure uke’s arm under your armpit.
  2. Wrap your arm around uke’s head and grip your own leg or gi.
  3. Keep your weight low and spread; base on the side of your hip and foot.
  4. Do not let uke get their elbow to the mat or bridge into you.

Notes

This is often one of the first pins taught. Focus on pressure and control rather than strength.
